Belleville Minor Hockey Christmas Tournament Rules

 1)     This is a non-body checking tournament…and the purpose is friendly competition…all players are winners!

2)     All OHF and OMHA Rules shall apply in addition to the following tournament rules.

3)     All teams MUST check in at tournament headquarters prior to their first game and provide or confirm their approved roster previously submitted.  If a travel permit is required they must also be submitted at this time.

4)     Games will be three periods.

a.       For Tyke and Novice, each period will be 15 minutes straight time. There will be a buzzer at 3 minute intervals for line changes. No substitutions can be made to lines during any point in the game, please remember the Fair Play Rule.

b.       For Atom, Peewee, Bantam, and Midget each period will be 10 minutes stop time.  Run time will be applied in the thirdperiod if the goal differential becomes 5. It will revert back to stop time if the goal differential becomes  2. This will apply to Championship games as well.

 

5)     MVP awards will be presented for all games.  Championship and finalist awards will be given to all declared players in the A and B Finals. Participant awards will be presented to the losing team in the divisions with a Wild Card Game.

6)     Teams must be ready to play (15) minutes before designated game starting times and will get a 3 minute warm up.  Hand shake will occur before the game.  Players line up after the game on the Blue Line for MVP assignment.  Opposition Coach assists tournament convener to declare opposing teams MVP.

7)     All games played during round robin format will be decided on a 5 point system.

5 Point System                 1 point per period won

1/2 point for a tied period

2 points for a win

1 point each for a tied game

0 points for a loss

8)     Divisions with 4, 6, or 8  teams will play a 3 game round robin format.  Following the round robin the total points accumulated will determine the placement of all teams in the division.  The first and second place team will advance to the A final, with the third and fourth place teams advancing to the B Final.

9)     Divisions with 7 teams will play a 2 game round robin format. Following the round robin the total points accumulated will determine the placement of all teams in the division. The 4th place team will play the 5th place team and the 3rd place team will play the 6th place team.  Winners of these games will advance to the B Final.  The 2nd place team will play the 7th place team with the winner advancing to face the 1stplace team in the A Final.

10) Divisions with 9 teams will play a 2 game round robin format. Following the round robin the total points accumulated will determine the placement of all teams in the division. The 5th place team will play the 6th place team and the 4th place team will play the 7th place team.  Winners of these games will advance to a Wildcard game.  The 3rd place team will play the 8th place team with the winner advancing to face the Wildcard game winner in the B Final. The 2nd place team will play the 9th place team with the winner advancing to face the 1st place team in the A Final.

11) The fourth and fifth place team will play a Wild Card game with the winner advancing to the B final against the third place team.  The first and second place teams will advance to the A final.

12) In the event of a tie after round robin play the following tie breaker format  will be followed.  If the teams remain tied after i) then ii) will apply and so on:

i)                   The results of the games between the teams involved will determine a winner(head to head)

ii)                 Divide the goals for by the goals against. The teams with the highest percentage will advance.

iii)               The team with the most goals for will advance.

iv)                The team with the least amount of penalty minutes will be declared the winner.

v)                 Flipping a coin

13) A two man official system will be used for all games. All referee decisions will be final and cannot be altered by the tournament director.

14) Floods will take place at the end of each game, or at the discretion of the tournament director.  Players may not enter the ice surface until Zamboni doors are shut.  At no point are team staff permitted to walk across the ice surface, the exception being the trainer to attend to an injured player.

15) One (1) 30 second "timeout” per team will be permitted during the finalsonly.

16) Championship and playdown games will have 5 minute sudden victory over time. If still tied, a shootout will occur. Each team will choose five shooters, players currently serving a penalty will be ineligible. The shooters will shoot simultaneously. If tied, another five shooters will be chosen. Every player with the exception of the goaltender must shoot before any player can shoot again.

17) A photographer will be taking pictures of all Championship and Finalist teams on the ice immediately following the game.  The tournament committee requests that no other individuals step onto the ice to take pictures for safety reasons.  These pictures will be posted on our website and teams can request that copies be sent to them electronically.

18) The Tournament Committee reserves the right to render final decisions regarding rule protest and objections, and any other matter that may arise.
